Thank You Emails Are Important!

Admittedly, not all thank you emails get read, but a Talent Inc. survey found that 68% of recruiters/hiring managers said that receiving a thank-you email impacted their decision-making. Every detail matters during your job search, and a thank you email is a part of creating a lasting impression.

Timing

Send your email within 24 hours of your interview. If you interview in the morning, send the email the same day. If you interview later in the afternoon, it’s ok to send your email the following morning.

Who Will Get a Thank You Email

If you interview with a panel of individuals or have multiple interviews with one company, send a separate email to each person. Customize the messages in case the people who interviewed you compared messages.

Follow Up

If you don’t hear anything after your interview it’s perfectly acceptable (and expected) that you follow up after 3-5 days and weekly after your initial follow up, until you receive a response. When you call or email, be sure to keep your tone respectful and polite.

Video Thank You

Want to make a big impact? To leave a lasting impression, why not create a thank you video and forward it to the hiring manager or recruiter? Ensure your video is concise, no more than 1-3 minutes, and has adequate lighting.
